Run Your Own Bookstore Opportunity

$30.00

Ever dream of running your own bookstore? Want to curate and recommend the best book choices to customers? Now you have the chance to do so with our Run Your Own Bookstore option!

Here’s how this works:

  • One person every month has the opportunity to curate their own bookshelf at Blythe Books.

  • You will pick 4-7 titles for our store to stock. We will order and stock the books for you both in-store and online.

  • For each book that sells off of your shelf, you receive 37% of the profits.

  • The other 63% of the profits of each book sold will be donated to a charity of your choice.

  • Bonus: If you sellout your entire bookshelf before the end of the month, Blythe Books will make an additional $50 donation to your chosen charity.

What You Will Do to Create Your Own Bookshelf:

  • Think of 4-7 titles you’d really like other people to read. It’s helpful if they all tie together in a bigger theme, but that’s up to you.

  • Work with us the month prior to your bookselling so we can make sure everything is ordered and delivered on time.

  • Write up shelf tags explaining why you’re recommending the book(s) on your shelf

  • Decorate your shelf as you see fit - it’s your shelf!

  • Tell your friends and family about it and encourage them to stop by.

  • Sit back and let the books sell!

What Blythe Books Will Do to Help You Create Your Own Bookshelf:

  • Communicate approx. 30 days prior to discuss what books you’d like to order.

  • Offer suggestions on what might sell well.

  • Handle the ordering, delivery, and stocking of your books

  • Place books online for additional ordering options

  • Process all sales and settle payouts to you/your charity at the end of the month

If you’d like the chance to run your own bookstore in a smaller setting that doesn’t require any start-up costs and also allows you to donate proceeds to your favorite non-profit, this is a great chance for you!

Age Requirement: Must be 16+ to participate. Any minors will need to have written consent from a parent/guardian before being selected.

FAQs

Can I use store credit to book this?

You can! Email us at hello@blythebooks.com to have your credit applied to your purchase.

What if I sign up and then decide I don’t want to do it?

We will refund your deposit only if we can find someone else to take your spot. All reasonable attempts to find a replacement will be made.

How do I know what books to choose?

That’s up to you! We’re here to offer as much guidance and support as you’d like. You’re welcome to take our suggestions if you feel you need them, or run this setup completely on your own.

Are there any books I cannot choose?

Yes. Any books promoting hate speech against another group is not allowed. Any book written by AI is not allowed. Books cannot be written (or ghostwritten) by any authors we find problematic. Books must be available for purchase through Ingram (the main book distribution retailer). Books must be diverse in author selection (which means you cannot stock the entire shelf with the same author).

We reserve the right to remove any books from your shelf after stocking it if we find the book is in breach of any of the above reasons. We reserve the right to not stock any book selected by you for any of the above reasons as well as for reasons that we consider outside of our control. These reasons include but are not limited to: low/no stock availability, transportation and/or delivery issues of the stock, damage stock received, shipping issues.

What percentage of the book price will I receive as profit?

This depends on the book. Bookstores usually receive a book at a discounted rate, and sell it for the list price found on the book. The difference between the two prices allows us to make a profit for the store.

In this case, Blythe Books will recoup the initial discounted price that we paid for a book. What’s left over (the profit) is considered the proceeds. The proceeds is the amount that will be split 37% to you as an individual and 63% to the charity of your choice.

Blythe Books is certainly not trying to make money from this arrangement, but we cannot lose money either.
